Fratelli d'Italia

What a night! Thursday saw us play at Pivo Pivo with two excellent bands and a wonderful, supportive crowd. Openers Nespresco played as a trio of drums, piano and guitar and played as if that's how they'd always done it, rather than just had a months notice. They brought along a really decent crowd, and it's not surprising given their talent. Keep an eye out for them, really worth going to see and really decent guys.

We were up next with a 45 minute set which included two new songs. We decided to try a few things out with this gig to make it a bit more of a show, so opened with a jam between Neil and Scott, with the guitars joining in after, leading into '9 Steps'. The first new song of the night was 'First Waltz' and featured our first use of vocal harmonies, which went really well. When it came to playing 'Toucan' we decided to slow it down and funk it up, including some beat-boxing and scat-singing, which the audience responded well to. Our second new song, 'Paper/Weight', was a low tempo number, not quite a ballad though. Again, a good response from the audience. All-in-all we were really pleased with our performance.

Third on the stage were Cyclephante playing on their UK tour. A few of the FE boys have been listening to their album for some time, and to finally see them live was an absolute pleasure. They played all the songs from their 'Peach In Love' debut, and a number of other songs which point towards good things for their second album (recording starts early next year). They even included a cover in the form of QOTSAs 'No One Knows'.

At the end of the night, the bar manager told us it was one of the busiest nights she'd seen at Pivo, so we'd like to give the biggest thanks to all those who came along and supported us and the other bands. A massive thank you to the engineer Nick (one of the best we've worked with) and to Pivo Pivo and Nespresco.

Thank you also to Mauro, Davide, Daniel, David and Andrea for bringing one of Italy's best bands across to the UK after accepting an invite from a local Glasgow band, you couldn't ask to meet nicer gentlemen.

You can find them on Myspace, comment below if you want a copy of their CD.

Our next gig is at Slouch, Bath Street, on December 14th for an MTV Unplugged style show, more details to follow but it's definitely free entry. Thanks again to everyone who supported us last week, hope to see you in December.

Ciao

Capitol Gains

Hello!!!

Last night saw us play in Capitol, Sauchiehall Street. It was our first gig in Glasgow since June and, whilst a little rusty in parts, we got great feedback from the people there. We didn't get on until gone 11, so a massive thank you to everyone who came out and stayed around for over three hours to see us play, it means a lot to us. We had a great night, heard some other great bands and even got some folk dancing down the front. Thanks to Craig from What's The Noise, Michael the sound engineer, Black Avenue, Cha Cha Heels, Queen Jane, The Travels and all the folk at Capitol.

Our next gig is at Pivo Pivo on Thursday November 18th with Nespresco and Cyclephante. Tickets are £3 and this is going to be amazing! Cyclephante have won various national competitions in Italy and have played at a 12th century castle, so we're looking forward to a great show. Hope you can join us.

Hugs and kisses,

Egon

The Italian Job

Hi everyone

We're very pleased to be able to announce that one of Italy's best unsigned bands will be joining us at Pivo Pivo on November 18th. As part of a small UK tour Cyclephante will entertain a Glasgow audience with their mix of rock, funk and Italian folk music. It will be an amazing night!

Tickets will be £3 and available in advance or on the door. We anticipate a high demand so make sure you get yours as soon as you can from one of us.

In their own words:

"Cyclephante is an Italian band formed at the end of 2003. The four guys have known each other since childhood and started playing just for fun, realising soon the incredible vibrations they could create together. Their music is characterized by catchy acoustic guitar riffs, a powerful rhythmic section and the use of odd signatures. The unique and unusual character of their melodies is given through different musical atmospheres (rock, funk, metal, classic, folk) the guys can condense in a single tune: it is border music, it is a sound of cities and valleys, of water and earth.
After winning several contests, playing all over Italy and Europe, releasing a self-produced album (Peach in Love-2006) Cyclephante have started playing again and are working on their second album, which is going to be recorded at the beginning of 2011"

Find them on their Myspace page

If you know anyone in London, send them to the Hope and Anchor, Islington on Tuesday 16th, and anyone in Dundee can catch them on Wednesday 17th at Drouthy's.

We're very excited about this, and hope all of you can join us.

Pick up a CD with a few of their songs from us at our gig at Capitol on Friday. We've still got tickets for £4, or £5 on the door.

See you Friday

Needs More Salt...

Evenin'

Tonight saw Feeding Egon make their acoustic debut at the Halt2 open mic night. We were expecting an empty room, and instead got a decent smattering of folk and some amazing performances before we were called upon. We started with 'Down Below' and moved on to 'Hula-Hoop'. Everyone else got to play 3 songs, we only got the two for some reason. Don't really think we were what people were there to hear, maybe if we'd just moved a capo up the neck and played the same thing they'd have liked it more.

Nonetheless we enjoyed the performance, could be the start of something. Keep an eye out at future open mics for a song or two by Feeding Egon.

We also had a practice tonight, it went well. The second practice on the run up to our live return at Capitol on October 15th. Gonna be a stormer of a set, and the new songs we're working on are shaping up nicely to be debuted in November at Pivo Pivo.

We now have the tickets for the Capitol gig, if you'd like one speak to one of the band or comment below and we'll get you one.

Hope to see you there, or maybe at an open mic night if we practice it a bit

Ba de ya, dancing in September

Hello!!

We're getting ready for our Capitol gig on Friday 15th October. Got some new ideas to work on over the coming weeks, and hopefully one or two will be ready for the gig.

Because we know you were all wondering, our Top Friends box is made up of the venues, promoters and bands which we are playing with at upcoming gigs. Therefore, if you need to know where we're playing, or want to check out the other bands, just check our Top Friends. Just as a re-cap, this means the bands we are playing with on Friday 15th October, at Capitol (entry £5), are in our Top Friends. Except one, which we couldn't find on myspace.

We're also working on our Pivo Pivo gig, a venue so good they named it twice. There may very well be some 'exciting, amazing, hope it happens, can't wait to tell everyone if it does' news about the Pivo gig, may very well end up being the best few quid you've ever spent. You'll know as soon as things are confirmed.

PS, did we mention we have a gig coming up? 15th October, Capitol.

Shhh... Musicians Sleeping

So, been a bit quiet lately. We played in Edinburgh at the fringe, which was a fun gig and saw us playing to an international audience, a group of Spanish tourists getting their free pint then promptly fucking off. They'll never get Gibraltar with those manners.

We fully intended to be playing a gig in September at the Wise Monkey, that is now not going ahead. The pub would rather have covers bands, and obviously no one told them we do a mean 'Cochise' (as well as the end bit from 'The Chain').

We're working to get bookings for October in Glasgow and beyond. For November, we have hired Pivo Pivo and will be putting on our own night. We can confirm that tickets will be £3, but we're keeping the line-up under wraps. In a box. On a folded piece of paper. Written in invisible ink. We hope to see as many folk there as possible. Put it in your diaries, no excuses. 18th November

And that's how, for now

Ciao

Strathaven Oxjam cancelled- BP to blame?

Unfortunately the Oxjam gig in Strathaven will not be happening in September due to the organiser being unable to find a venue. We are still hoping to see if there is any way we can get involved in Glasgow Oxjam later in the year.

Our second appearance with Get Loose promotions is August 18th at Banshee Labyrinth in Edinburgh, and is a free gig. The venue is said to be the most haunted pub in Edinburgh and plays up to that by being very dark throughout and even showing horror films in a small cinema, so even if you think we're shit you should still come along.

See you in the capital

June

Well, our first gig of the month has been and gone. We played at the Captain's Rest on the 1st for the House of Rock Showcase. After our last two gigs, it was great to get to see some other bands play too. First on were Port Cullas, a band we would advise everyone to check out live. A great set by some great guys, and they provided more entertainment from the crowd as the night went on. We were on second, and played a pretty tight set. We debuted our new song, 'Fuck Up The Pick-Ups', and played all our old classics to a great reception. The robot dance will never get a louder cheer! Last on were Contact Lost, another great set by the boys (and girl), who also boasted a new song as well as a cover of Wishing Well by Bad Company/Free/Paul Rogers. A great crowd were out, and the Captain's Rest is now up there as one of our favourite venues. Thanks to Dan and PB who filmed the set, expect to see some videos soon.

Our second gig of the month is booked for Box on Monday 14th, and sees us share the stage with 5 other bands (see our Top Friends) for a chance to play at the Glasgow Academy as part part of the future fest competition. As always with these talent shows, the winner will be the one who brings the most people/knows the organiser so the more folk we have coming along the better. Win or not, it'll be a great way to introduce our music to lots of potential new fans, so wish us luck.

We'll let you know how it goes.

If it wasn't for the no pets policy, we could have doubled the crowd

Well, we just played our first gig in Edinburgh. Like the Dundee gig, it ended up being just ourselves on the bill after the local band pulled out one hour after the last minute. It does means we can honestly say we've headlined an Edinburgh gig, the downside was that there were only about 10 people in the crowd, even though we went into a few hostels to ask them to send people our way, and Fraser very nearly took his guitar to the streets to rouse support.

Still, a few were new faces, and we hope the experience didn't put them off from seeing us again. As a show, it went well. Bannerman's seems like it would be a great venue to play packed, but was bit cavernous with a small, but enthusiastic, crowd. We played through our set with a few alterations to the running order (variety is, after all, the spice of life) and no glaring errors. Our thanks to those who came out, to the sound guy (whose name I didn't catch) and to Kev (who lent us a bass).

We've got a few new songs that we'll be working on at practices and hope to introduce them into the set soon, they're sounding pretty good, just need a bit of work and we'll be there. Our next gig is the House of Rock showcase at the Captain's Rest in Glasgow, promises to be a cracker, and we promise it won't just be us! 1st June, 8pm, tickets £4 on the door.

In a shameless plug, Mike's brother's band are back and gigging, although so far only a Barcalona gig confirmed, and we hope to get them up here for a show at some point if all works out. In the meantime, check them out at Cato's myspace page.

This song is about getting the funk outta Tayport

he sign that welcomes you to the city is 'Dundee-City of Discovery' and we 'discovered' something... always check what the venue supplies. On Monday, we were told that the Duke's Corner doesn't supply any backline except PA, so had to arrange for three amps and a drum kit to travel from Glasgow to Dundee, with half the band already traveled... fun times! Lesson learnt though, the first thing we'll be asking every future venue is if they supply backline.

The gig was great, we were the only band performing, if we had time (and, indeed, footage) we could have made a wee video to play before the show and made a Down style 'Evening with Feeding Egon' event of the whole thing. We played a great set of 10 songs, including one jam and two instrumentals that are still in their infancy. They were all well received by the audience.

It was a bit of a homecoming for half the band, being from across the river. The gig started with a dedication to "getting the fuck outta Tayport" and ended with a song about Broughty Ferry, so we were very much 'Live and Local!'

A big thank you to the Duke's Corner for putting us on, to everyone that came and to Harry James Perston for transporting the amps.

Our next gig is in Edinburgh at Bannerman's in the Cowgate, £4 on the door.

After that, June 1st sees us play with good friends Contact Lost at the Captain's Rest in Glasgow. Promises to be a cracker! A few other things in the pipeline too, we'll keep you updated.

Creationists

Hi guys, hope all is good with in the world of Feeding Egon fandom.

On Saturday we played a GUBS night at Creation Studios on Trongate. It's a rehearsal space with a cafe on the ground level which serves as the gig venue. We witnessed the first gigs of new Glasgow bands The Remnants and Overtone, both of whom played fantastic sets, well done to them. Minor Arcana also played, an experimental celtic rock band who played their own material and covers (which they made their own). Whilst we're on it, thanks to Lewis and the GUBS guys for organising the evening and for coming along. Also thanks to the table of randoms, who were so appreciative of everyone.

Due to it being Scott's birthday on the Monday, we invited a few friends to join us on stage in the form of Iain and Alex, thanks to them for being up for the laugh, videos are on Youtube and the mysapce. We also debuted a new song, '9 Steps', which was very well received by the crowd, and great fun to play.

For those of you who still haven't had their fill, or who simply haven't managed to catch us yet, our next gig is Capitol, Sauchiehall Street, on Easter Sunday (4th April). It looks like we're on around 9pm, if it changes, we'll let you know. We can also now confirm a date for Dundee, Tuesday 20th April, and are working on getting a date in Romford during the summer, and hope to get one or two more Glasgow dates before the summer.

Again, a massive thanks to everyone who has come out to see us, we really appreciate it.

See you soon guys

The Begining... At Last

Well, that was fun. First gig last night at Maggie May's, and it was absolutely brilliant. Thanks to everyone that came out for it, and also to the other bands on the bill, Thula Borah and Curly's Heroes, and to the sound guys for doing an excellent job.

A broken bass string at the end of the sound check ensured it wasn't completely plain sailing, and by the time the first band went on none of us could sit still, but the set itself was amazing. No obvious mistakes, great crowd and a great mix.

Next gig is Monday night, 13th Note at 9'o'clock, £4 on the door. After that is 27th March at Creation Studios, and the price of that is... FREE, so no excuses.

Thanks once again to all those that came out last night, some making short journeys, others long and arduous treks. It would have been nothing without you, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
